Term 3 & Week 2

Welcome back to school for Term 3

Make sure that you check the upcoming events section of the blog and add them to your calendar.

The children began the term with measurable improvements in their maths knowledge and I plan to integrate maths into our topic studies to maximise these gains.

This term our health focus is Life Education with a focus on how the brain works.  The sessions with Ann from Life Ed were informative and the children were totally engaged for both sessions.

In topic studies we are making the most of the Commonwealth Games success of our athletes and we are learning to estimate distances, weights and times and to compare these to our own abilities.  Mrs Foley is leading the school in 'Enviroschools' and the class will be developing a class 'Care Code' along with assisting in developing a school wide 'Vison Map'.

In maths, along with measurement and knowledge skills, we will be working on addition and subtraction strategies as well as re-visiting fractions and ratios.

Our reading focus will be on inference. The children will be able to discuss this concept and share examples for some of their home reading.

In writing we are learning to use complex sentences across a range of genre as well as how to use apostrophes correctly.

The speech competiton takes place in week 9 but the children will be preparing speeches at school and at home prior to the finals.  The topic is:

How a person, culture or creature can be influenced by its environment.

As we have a strong E- Learning focus, we will continue to be producing, practising and sharing our work using Google Drive,  Mathletics, Studyladder and E-Ako.

Thank you for your continued support
