WELCOME TO 2014

Room 6 Newsletter Term 1 2014
Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to Room 6 for 2014.

The school theme for Term 1 is “Cool Literacy Learning” where we will be focussing on developing and using new vocabulary.  We are also integrating the Cool Schools Mediation programme into our weekly lessons where we will learn about dispute resolution and peer mediation.

In Room 6 we also start the year with Cybersafety where we will be learning to be responsible digital citizens.  We currently have 18 windows based devices in the classroom and I will be welcoming some new technology as the year progresses.

There will be a strong focus on literacy and numeracy this term as well as formal testing such as PATs and Probe.

The ‘Habits’ that we will be focusing on this term are Finding Humour, Listening with Empathy and Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations.

Dates of upcoming events and children’s learning will be posted on the class blog - http://room06haumoana2014.blogspot.co.nz

Maths – number knowledge from the School Number Ladder.
There will be additional activities at times throughout the year which will be itemised in their homework book.  Please check and sign this daily.
Communication is important to me and if you have any concerns or queries, email me or pop into class to arrange a time for discussion.
