The Room 5 and 6 children were well organised and had a wonderful range of treats, toys and books to sell to the younger students, teachers and parents.
It was another successful day with a massive $542 raised for the class camps. Thank you parents for your continued support of this event. There is plenty of learning going on too as there are always interesting discussions before and after the event as the children discuss their successes.

Week 4
We had a fantastic end to Week 3 with a sun and fun filled day out at the school picnic. Thank you to those parents who were able to help with transport and supervision.
Week 4
This week in the classroom:
Language: We will be investigating commonly confused words - homophones!
'A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning.' e.g. which and witch.
Within the next week I hope to have all children publish a piece of writing on their individual blog - some are up already. They are able to access these from home where they can edit them , add extra details or photos to enhance them further. You are also able to give them feedback by posting comments. All editing and comments generate an email to me so I can check and approve additions. Check it out and give it a go!
Maths: We will be learning to use a range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Camp Help
Room 6 @ Guthrie Smith Education Centre
Notice #1
13th February
Hi all
.I have had a few queries about camp recently and I need to collect a bit of information from parents to help with my planning, so here is the official update.
Room 6 will be attending the Guthrie Smith Education Centre (GSEC) in Week 9 of this term. It is a fantastic area for an outdoor education experience as it provides a range of activities to suit all abilities and it will be a great chance for me to get to know the children.
· Dates booked are 31st March to 3rd April (3 nights, 4 days). The camp is approximately 50km from Haumoana.
· Transport will be by private vehicle.
· Activities may include: ropes course, orienteering, mud walk, cooking and team challenges and bush walks.
· Cost (preliminary estimate $160 per child). Automatic payments can now be arranged with office.

February 2014
Year
4, 5 and 6 children will be involved in cycling activities as part of Bikewise
month and our fitness and physical education programmes. These will take place Tuesday-Friday during Weeks 3-5.
Fitness with
Bikes
Please
check bikes and ensure that your child has a working and safe bicycle for these
days. All cycling takes place on school grounds.
School
Triathlon – week 4
These
fitness activities include a Triathlon on Wednesday 26th February (1.30 – 3.00 pm). Order of the legs are Run, Bike, and
Swim (flutter boards are optional for the less confident swimmers). The
children will compete in Year groups and the distances concerned are easily
achievable by all the children in the senior syndicate. This event is designed to enable all children
to attain success by completing the 3 disciplines, as well as enabling some to
be competitive with their peers.
For
the triathlon children will need to bring:
·
Togs
- A bike (in good
working order)
- Helmet
- Shoes (compulsory on the bike)
- Parents and family members are welcome to come along to support the children.
Thanks
David
