Hi all
I hope you had a great weekend following children around the winter sporting codes - it's amazing to see how many of the children are involved in winter sport.
At school, we are in for a busy couple of weeks.
The Barefoot 7's are on Thursday.
This Friday, it is the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge - half of Room 6 are going to give it a go so look out for the photos!
The Hawke's Bay Individual Orienteering Championships take place on Sunday.
Next week I will be out of the class Monday (Interface IT conference - Taupo) and Tuesday (National Young Leaders Conference - Palmerston North).
The HNI Tech Tasters trip has been postponed - new dates will be advised later.
In the classroom, we are now 1 to 1 with electronic devices. We have a mix of chromebooks, netbooks, pcs and ipads to assist our learning.
The children now have their own email address and will be creating their own blogs using blogger rather than kidsblog. I have a more user friendly interface - Teacher Dashboard - where I can monitor all documents, emails and blogs from my desktop.
In Language we are continuing to learn to write expositions and reviewing our learning about adjectives.
In maths we are learning to use multiplication strategies to solves problems. Children need to be regularly working on their Maths Knowledge steps and getting these assessed. All children have access to a 30 day trial of IXL maths to improve their maths skills.
Our country study is under way and children's work should be available for you to peruse on-line this week.
If parents want to see IT in action or have any queries- feel free to drop in and ask.
Have a great week!

Term 2
Welcome back to school for Term 2. This term is a short one - 9 weeks - and already looking very busy. Check out the dates on 'Upcoming Class Events'. One event not yet added to the calendar is the National Young Leaders Conference in Palmerston North on the 27th May. Applications will be open for this event shortly.
Using the Habits of Mind, we will be aiming to be 'continuous learners' and to 'question and pose problems'.
The focus for the term is 'Going Global and Local' where we will be exploring different cultures. The class has chosen their main topic but will be coming up with ways to demonstrate their learning in the next week. We will also be celebrating Matariki and visiting Matahiwi Marae.
Room 6 has been allocated 12 Chromebooks to add to the Netbooks already installed in the class. We are in the process of improving our skills to make the most of this technology. Expect to see more work shared on-line.
WEEK 1
This week in Maths we will be revising last terms topics and checking progress in Maths Knowledge so check out the stages on the maths pages and get in some knowledge practice.
In Language we are learning to use 'hyperbole' to entertain in our writing. Finished samples should be on Kidsblog shortly.

The children were amazing last week at camp, showing limitless levels of energy and giving everything a go! A big thank you goes out to all parent transporters and helpers!
More photos and videos will appear on-line this week as we tackle the after camp activities.

In maths, we will be working on geometry skills. We will be learning to use grid references and give directions using compass points.
I will be out of the classroom on Tuesday of this week and Wednesday next week when I will be meeting up with individuals to test reading and maths levels.
Good luck to the inter-school cricketers on Wednesday (notices went home today).
Notices regarding the 'Tough Guy & Girl Challenge', Orienteering champs and cycling teams are also need to be returned this week.
