Bike Safety Course

Room 6 children successfully completed the Grade 1 Bike Safety course on Tuesday.  There are some outstandingly confident and knowledge cyclists in the class who impressed the Sport HB organisers.

The children learned skills, played games to practise those skills and then put them into action on the road course at HB Sports Park.

Year 6 children will be assisting staff in designing and running the Bike Safety programme for the younger children at school.

Week 7 - Remember the speeches!

Week 6 review.

Another successful week from Room 6 children as the girls cycling team finished 3rd in the Year 7 North Island Champs.  Congrats Chloe, Katelyn, Hirani and Lily (Lily also 9th in the individual road race).

Hirani collected her 4th winners medal in the local cyclocross competition and Lily and Chloe competed in the NZ Duathlon champs - finishing as 4th team in the Year 7 category.

The hockey players finished second in their local competition and we have a number of children still in contention for rugby reps.

The children made a major effort in Mathletics.  The top 3 girls were Phoebe, Chloe and Lily N who pipped the top 3 boys (Cameron B, Shae and Blake).  There were some large points totals and wonderful learning discussions taking place at school.

Week 7
This week in language, we will be writing sports reports using '3rd person' and working on our understanding of length and area in maths.  We also have a 'financial literacy' session on Friday afternoon with ASB.

SPEECHES - Children will also be preparing their speeches.  These 3-4 minute presentations will take place in week 8 with the final in week 9.

The Hiwi the Kiwi writing competition had 2 runners up from Room 6 (Max and Jack) with well written personal experiences that included the key messages.  The overall winner of the fishing rod and reel was LilyS-E with an entertaining quatrin poem.  All examples should be available on theiir personal blogs.

And remember. . .

Cross Country week!  Let's hope that the weather clears up for the event on Wednesday afternoon.  Wear House colours to support your team!

We will be preparing speeches for delivery to the class towards the end of next week.  Details of the topic have been shared with the children in class and are available on Google Drive.  Check out the topic and help your child with their decisions.

Week 4

Thank you to all the parents and relations who attended our first student led learning conference last week.  I thought it was a great evening and the children certainly enjoyed sharing their learning.

Good luck to all the choir children as they perform in the Kidsing event this week.  There have been lots of practises and they are sounding fantastic.

The 2 interschool hockey teams are playing on Wednesday afternoon and have shown a big improvement in skills at practice over the last few weeks.

This week is New Zealand Maths week and the children will be involved in a range of online and book challenges both at home and in class.  Ask them to show some of the activities that are available at
www.nzmathsweek.org.nz

We will have a visit from HNI students this Thursday.  They will be sharing their thoughts on transitioning to intermediate with the class.

Next week there is the Open Evening at HNI on Tuesday night and we have the final 'tech taster' on Wednesday morning.  Newsletters out soon.

Haave a great week.
